Getting to Know Pleasant Hill, OH
With a population of more than 1,200 residents, Pleasant Hill is a village located in Miami County. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Originally, Pleasant Hill was called Newton. It was laid out under that name in 1843. Then, in 1866 it was incorporated into a village. Currently, Pleasant Hill has a public library, which is a branch of the Troy-Miami County Public Library.
Pleasant Hill has a centralized location in Newton Township; it’s located at the intersection of State Route 718and State Route 48. The village consists of less than one square mile. Throughout its history, it has been the home of famous men such as: Jesse Beery, horse trainer; Roy Plunkett, inventor of Teflon; and Dan West, founder of Heifer International. In 1895, a monument was erected in Pleasant Hill, the middle of town, to honor local fallen heroes from the Civil War who have unknown graves.
